    LG KC910 Renoir

    December 23rd, 2008

Telecom 3: LG RC910 RenoirThe LG Renoir was released at the end of October this year and is the replacement for the LG Viewty and is now available at Telecom 3. The Renoir, much like the Viewty, is a pioneering imaging device, nicknamed after the famous impressionist painter. It boasts an 8 mega-pixel camera, and it pushes the highly capable photographic abilities of its predecessor to a new level.

The Renoir looks similar to the Viewty. It’s a flat touch screen phone that’s a little larger in size (108 x 55 x 14.5mm) and weighing in at 110g, giving the phone some weight for the user to hold the handset steady whilst taking pictures. The handset uses Haptic (vibration) feedback to confirm that you’ve pressed a “button” on the virtual screen, whether it’s the virtual onscreen keypad or QWERTY.

The phone still comes with many more upgraded features such as the camera capabilities. Equipped on this are a high quality Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus, powerful xenon flash and new features such as face tracking and beauty shot. Xenon flash is a more powerful feature compared to the LED, and gives substantially improved after-dark shots. Beauty shot is an innovated feature that automatically detects faces, brightens them and removes spots and other imperfections. The phone also uses TouchShot, which enables you to use the touch screen to focus on a particular area of the shot and the shutter fires when you remove your finger from the screen. Result of all these key features means that the Renoir can take pictures which can be passed as printable quality, even though it’s not a dedicated digital camera. The Renoir also features an outstanding video camera too, capturing upto 120 FPS (frames per second) and also allowing you to playback your videos in slow-motion. 3G video calling is also supported.

Telecom 3: LG RC910 RenoirThe phone doesn’t only excel in camera capabilities, but video and music playback. The Renoir is the first phone to feature Dolby Mobile which processes its sound to enhance music, in particular by boosting the bass output. The music player can play all popular music formats (MP3, AAC, AAC+, & WMA) and has an inbuilt FM radio. Video player supports DivX and XVid formats so you can watch your downloaded files from the internet on your phone. With all these media files, the Renoir has 100MB of in-built memory and comes supplied with an 8GB microSD memory card which enables the user to store approximately 2,000 MP3 tracks or 15 DivX/XVid video files.

But there’s much more to the KC910 than just its camera. This is the first mobile to feature Dolby Mobile. This brand new technology from Dolby processes sound to enhance music, in particular by boosting bass output. The music player can play virtually all popular digital music formats including MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC++ & WMA. It can also play back video in DivX and Xvid formats so that you can watch movies on your phone. An FM radio is built in too, so you have a very wide range of music and video options available.

Connectivity variety on the Renoir is impressive also. The 3G phone offers 7.2 Mbps HSDPA speeds, USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi enabled, so you can connect wirelessly to a home, office network or hotspots. All these connectivity options allows this device to formidably access the internet to browse the web, use the Assisted-GPS feature, check e-mail with it’s e-mail application which supports attachments. The document support allows you to view TXT, PDF, DOC, PPT & XLS.

The feature packed KC910 Renoir is a very impressive handset which does everything one could hope for. It’s also a strong candidate for phone of the year 2008.

    Sony Ericsson W595

    December 19th, 2008

Sony Ericsson bring out yet another “Walkman” series phone in an attractive slide form factor, the W595. The phone resembles the W910i which was released a year ago. It looks the same on the outside and inside with identical list of features, except, with an upgraded camera and the wrinkles which made the W910i unstable ironed out. The firmware has been extensively upgraded to make the phone very reliable and a joy to use which is why we now have it in our Telecom 3 product catalogue.

The W595 has the “Shake Control” that lets you change to a new track just by shaking the handset slightly. The motion sensor also auto-rotates between portrait and landscape.

The walkman player has received plenty of praise in the past, and this is the latest version 3.0. You can create and update your playlists, shuffle songs, randomised, equalise, etc. and album art can be displayed when music is playing. Supplied software along with connectivity, allows your music to be transferred or ripped from music and can be transferred between phone to PC or vice versa easily. The music audio quality is excellent, whether it’s being played through the loud speaker, a conventional stereo headset or a Bluetooth stereo headset. The Mega Bass feature helps enhance the bass frequencies to give the user a stronger bass sound for a fuller music experience. In addition, the phone also comes with a FM radio with RDS.

The W595 is a great music phone, as you’d expect. The Walkman player has received plenty of praise before, and this is the latest version 3.0. You can create and manage playlists, shuffle songs, equalise, etc, and album art can be displayed when music is playing. The supplied software lets you transfer music from PC to phone, and rip music from CD’s. The W595 has excellent audio quality, either through the loud stereo speakers, or via a conventional stereo headset or a Bluetooth stereo headset. The Mega Bass feature helps to enhance bass frequencies for a fuller sound. In addition to the music player, there’s an FM radio with RDS.

With all these music features, you’ll want the space to store all your files. The built-in memory is only 4 mega-bytes but it comes with a 2 giga-bytes memory card which is enough for about roughly 500 MP3 tracks. If this however, is not enough, then the phone supports memory cards of up to 8 giga-bytes.

The camera has been upgraded to 3.2 and can also record video, and video calling is possible on a 3G network with the front mounted video camera.

The W595 is a brilliant phone. It’s what the W910i should have been and everyone that has picked up the phone hasn’t managed to put it down.
